The Bush theatre, which opened thirty-eight years ago in what was the upstairs dining room of The Bush Hotel, has a long reputation as a home for new plays and playwrights. The lease on the theatre’s current building expires in October 2011 and The Bush has for some time been searching for a more spacious new home within the Shepherds Bush area.
Now it has one.
At a meeting of the Hammersmith and Fulham Council yesterday, 11 November 2010, a deal was agreed which will see the theatre take over the Old Library building in Shepherds Bush in 2011.
Located on the Uxbridge Road beside the Shepherds Bush Market, the old library is situated at the heart of the community and is moments away from the theatre’s current address.
“The Bush’s move to the library will form an exciting part of the Shepherds Bush Market regeneration plans,” according to Josie Rourke, artistic director of the Bush Theatre, who is looking forward to a successful future in the theatre’s new home.
